It's Time to Press #Reset

January 04, 2017 5 Comments

It's time to press reset.

It's 2017 and we're ready to tackle another year like a boss! We're more focused than ever and want to continue to grow the BGR! movement with purpose and intention. With that being said, this year we're doing things a little different to help you achieve your fitness goals, big and small.

Each quarter, we will introduce a new theme or idea that will serve as our intention or mantra for those three months. During each quarter, we will bring you content and events that complement that theme to help guide us and challenge us physically and mentally.

We're kicking off the year with "Reset With Black Girls RUN!". Almost eight years ago we launched Black Girls RUN! as a way to encourage African-American women to live a healthy and active lifestyle. If you've been with us from the very beginning, you know that we have grown tremendously since 2009. From being recognized internationally to meeting Oprah (we must admit that was a highlight), we have grown into a MOVEMENT. It was something that took us by surprise and we've committed ourselves to growing BGR! so that even more women have an opportunity to experience the magic of Black Girls RUN!

Eight years later, we've both experienced tremendous life changes. From marriages, to babies to growing into mature women, we're definitely not the 26 year-olds that we were in the infant stages of the organization.

We've both spent the past few years really reflecting on the mission and vision of Black Girls RUN! and what we ultimately want to achieve. Each time we ask ourselves this question, we come back to the same answer....

To encourage and empower African-American women to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

At times we were overcomplicating it, overthinking it, even deviating from what we originally set out to do. But, when you're on a journey....a true honest journey, that happens sometimes.

After a planning session late last year, we both had an 'Ah Ha' moment. We needed to get back to root of why we started Black Girls RUN! and why we've dedicated our lives to the organization. Both personally and for the organization.

It was time to reset.

So, this quarter, we want you to reset with us. We're bringing it all back to why we started this journey, and most importantly, why YOU started this journey. Was it to join a community of like-minded women? Was it because you needed to make a big shift in your life? Was it because you knew that it was finally time to put your health first?

Whatever the reason, we're taking the time to rediscover our "whys" and uncover the true essence of what this journey and Black Girls RUN! is about. We're taking the time to dig deep, reflect and be intentional about all of the goals and plans that we have for the year ahead. We're resetting.

As we explore this idea, be sure to check our blog regularly and open those e-mails to come along on this journey with us. We've also got some new things in store that we can wait to share with you. You DON'T want to miss out! Trust us!

Until then, thank you so much for an amazing 2016 and thank you for continuing on this journey with us in 2017! It's going to be awesome. We promise.

Thank You for this article 2017 Seven meaning completion. This is the year to complete ones self to be the best I can be to complete me to feel satisfied with my accomplishments in being the best that I can be. Physically as well as mentally it means getting my body in the best shape and investing in expanding my mind.

It is interesting that this year has been chosen as a reset. In numerology, this is a number one year! The number one is for beginnings. I am a runner in NYC and would love it if there were a BGR here. I also play soccer and take dance classes. many years ago I stopped reading the latest health “discoveries”. For one thing, they are not for our African selves. (Think Mediterranean diet: it is good for those living in the Mediterranean). I decided to listen to my own body and what it wants for good health. I gave up dairy and wheat about nine years ago. I am allergic to soy products. Just doing those things I went from a size fourteen to a size six without even trying and my weight remains steady.

I am older than all of you; older probably than your mothers, and yet I am stronger than I have ever been in my life, including my twenties when I was a dancer. And yet, there is more to do, so I too need a reset. resetting never ends.

Thank you so much for sharing this article! There are unfortunately so many myths about fitness and people performing exercises completely wrong, that not only will impact the potential but can hurt them! I wrote a similar article about fitness myths and tips that I would love to get your opinion on if you have a second? http://therapycable.com/blog/fitness-myths-and-tips.html regardless, thank you again for this amazing article!
