Did you know that black women are are about three times more likely to die at the hands of a current or ex-partner than members of other racial backgrounds?
I was shocked and disturbed when I read this and wanted to do something about it- or at least help the victims already suffering from domestic violence.
So, this month we are announcing the Love. Peace. Sole. virtual race on October 24. A portion of proceeds from this race will go to YWCA. YWCA's mission is focused on eliminating racism and empowering women. YWCA serves over 500,000 women and children each year through women's shelters and domestic violence services.
We're also adding two items to the BGR! store that will also support YWCA. This includes a BGR! necklace with a heart pendant, to remind women to love themselves first. It also includes a Love. Peace. Sole. performance tee, which is purple, the color for domestic violence awareness.
Tees will be pre-order so we can deliver before Oct. 24, and you can wear them at virtual run meet-ups.
If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, visit, www.ywca.org. To find your local YWCA, click here. Or call The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). For the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network, call 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).
