Black Girls RUN! Partners With Girls On The Run International

Today Girls on the Run International announced its partnership with Black Girls RUN!, that encourages African-American women to make fitness and healthy living a priority. “Girls on the Run International and Black Girls RUN! share a common goal of promoting healthy lifestyles to women and girls,” said Elizabeth Kunz, President of Girls on the Run, “Members of Black Girls RUN! have long supported our girls as coaches and parents and we are enthusiastic about sharing their mission with the mothers, friends and family of our participants.” “As a Girls on the Run coach, I see firsthand the impact the program has on motivating girls to be healthy and active,” said Toni Carey, founder of Black Girls RUN!. “We look forward to involving our members in inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy and confident.” This partnership will connect women to like-minded organizations focused on ensuring all girls have the opportunity to know and activate their limitless potential. Some ways Black Girls RUN! and Girls on the Run International will work together include:
  • Encouraging BGR! members to participate as GOTR volunteers, coaches or SoleMates
  • Engaging GOTR families, coaches and volunteers to participate in BGR!
  • Ensuring African-American girls can participate in GOTR by providing scholarships for participants in minority/majority schools
  • Supporting the missions of each organization through awareness and co-branded messaging
About Girls on the Run Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. About Black Girls Run! Black Girls RUN! is a national running group launched in 2009 by Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks. The organization has grown to include more than 70 running groups across the nation with more than 96,000 members. The group was created to combat the obesity epidemic among women in the African- American community and dispel the myth that black women do not run.
