I am far more comfortable when I am using the phrase “weak in the knees” to describe my feelings towards my boyfriend, rather than the actual weakness in my knees. Seriously, if my knees could talk, I can only imagine that they would yell and scream about the last 20-miler I ran and these last few weeks of training.
With the marathon just a few weeks away, I decided that I had to find some sort of bandage or brace to wear during my runs. Luckily I have amazing friends like Stacey aka @CrimsonPurl, who put me on KT Tape. How does KT tape work? Well, it’s pretty simple. The tape comes in a roll with pre-cut strips that you apply along your ligaments and joints to give them support during your activity. It can be applied to different body parts. I’m using it on my knees, but it can be used pretty much all over your body – feet, shoulders, ankles, back and even shins. Another great feature of the tape is that it is waterproof, so it can be worn in the pool or over a period of days. I have to admit it holds up really well in water. I taped my knee and left it on there for three days and I didn’t have any problems with slippage.
Applying the tape is a little challenging at first until you get the hang of it. The tape does come with detailed instructions, but I found the youtube videos to be most helpful. So far, I’ve tried both the full knee support and lateral knee methods and sometimes I wear them both at the same time because I like the extra support.
Have you guys used KT Tape? If so, what are your thoughts? What other products are you guys using to help your deal with injuries?
