Shoes have the unique ability to express a special part of my personality and the mood I’m in.  During the week my shoes affirm my power, knowledge and keen sense of business. Some days they show my inner fashionista, my creativity and the quirkiness that lies beneath the business-savvy exterior. On the weekends, my shoes allow me to be free. My running shoes are a direct extension of my power, my sense of self-awareness, my heart and my determination. On the other hand my pumps give me the street cred I need to make it in boardroom. When I look for shoes, the keepers connect to me in an unexplainable way. When I came across Darlingtonia Moccasin Co., I knew I was in love. (huge thanks to Malika B. for recommending). Katie, the designer and Cali native, makes the fabulous moccasins, among other things. Each pair is made by hand using an antique Singer 29k machine. Yes, seriously they are handmade. The website features a variety of colors and designs all of which make me squeal like a little school girl.  They have a cushiony insole made from eco-friendly closed cell foam and it is the perfect shoe for runners when the knees won’t let you wear heels, but are equally as stylish as any heel. How many ways can you make a moccasin? More than one, that’s for sure. The company has six different categories that vary in color and style.Choose between “Tiger Lily” moccasins, “Plain Jane” moccasins, “Themed” moccasins and “Morning Star” moccasins.  My favorite? The “Black Tie”. It usually takes between three to seven days to make and get them in the mail.
