I just love redeeming runs. A few weeks ago, I had the WORST run of my life! I went for a 16 miler in Charlotte, and ended up sprawled out on the sidewalk around 14 miles. Unable to continue, I crawled to my car and spent the rest of the day trying to recover. I wish I had told you guys sooner, but I was so embarrassed and disappointed that I only shared the news with a few close friends. I know what you are thinking; did I really lay down on the sidewalk on a main street? Yes...And more specifically, I laid spread eagle in front of an Indian restaurant while people walked by stepped over and pretended not to notice me. I’m not sure if it was the heat, lack of hydration or what, but I felt dizzy, nauseous and as if someone had put a spout in me and poured out every single drop of energy.
My redeeming run was yesterday. A perfect day for running, I left my house mid-afternoon and started my trek towards lower Manhattan. After the first 5-6 miles, I was shocked that my body felt good and more importantly, relaxed. I didn’t start to feel any aches in my legs until mile 10. Surprising, I gained an extra boost of energy around mile 13, and managed to finish my 16 miles with a sprint to my apartment! I have come a long way in my marathon training, and for the first time I am starting to think of myself as a marathoner. I think for the rest of the week, I will be riding a high from this run. Lesson Learned: Stay motivated and keep pushing forward.
