BGR! Christmas Gift Guide

December 05, 2009

I have to admit I haven't started my Christmas shopping. There's a myriad of reasons why, but basically I haven't come to terms with it being December! As I started drafting my Christmas list, I decided 1.) to be frugal and 2.) the gifts should encourage a healthy lifestyle. Below are some gift ideas for your running buddies, workout partners or regular friends and family. Let's give the gift of motivation and health this season.

#1: Black Girls Run Hoodies and Tees
What better way to represent that you're a black girl that runs, than with our BGR! hoodie ($20) and tee ($10). Perfect for the fitness freak in your life. Purchase at

#2: KOR ONE hydration vessel: special edition
Each day an estimated 60 BILLION plastic water bottles are thrown away in the United States. KOR ONE reusable water bottles($35) are made from BPA-free Tritan-health-safe materials, have a hinged cap so that you can open and close it easily (no losing the cap), a perfectly sized threadless cap, is dishwasher safe (VERY important) AND they come in really cool, stylish colors. Most importantly, $5 from the sale of each KOR ONE special edition vessel will be donated to KOR's Thirst for Giving water cause partners in addition KOR will donate 1% of the sale to a select group of non-profits that focus on water-related issues.

#3: Brookadelphia Blue Ribbon Necklace
So may never win the New York City Marathon, heck you may never run a 5K, but you'll always look and feel like a champion no matter the distance with the RHS exclusive acrylic blue ribbon necklace. It'll just cost you $27.99.

#4: All Day: Nike+ Original Run featuring Aesop Rock
I love music and I cannot run without it. Nike+ has a variety of workout mixes that are great for long runs. My pick? Aesop Rock ($9.99). If you like real hip-hop, you'll love Aesop Rock. It's the perfect track for a rocking run.

#5: Road ID: the Wrist ID Sport
Great for all the outdoor types. If, God forbid, you were in an accident and you couldn't speak for yourself, the Road ID wrist band ($19.99) would provide emergency workers all your necessary contact information, as well as family member's information. It's better
to be safe than sorry.

#6: CLIF BAR MINI Energy Bars (variety pack)
Instead of gifting a 10 pound fruit cake, gift your healthy bud a variety pack of CLIF BAR MINI for the office, the run or the car. They're all natural and include 6 bars of each flavor: crunchy peanut butter, chocolate chip and chocolate brownie.

#7: Minimergency Survival Kit
Deodorant towels, bandages, pain reliever, earring backs and more. You never know what life might have in store. With the Minimergency Kit ($10.00), your loved one will be ready to conquer the smallest of emergencies.

#8: Runner's World Magazine
Runner's World (1 year subscription $12) is a comprehensive source for all things running, walking and getting fit. Don't let the name fool ya. It's for novice and well-seasoned runners alike. A year long subscription will have them hooked.

#9: Whole Foods Gift Card
A subtle way to hint they need to change their eating habits. Whole Foods has a variety of healthy, organic, good-for-you foods. Gift them with a gift card ($20-$500). It's the gift that keeps on giving.

#10: Injijni Yoga Toe-Less Socks
I love yoga, but hate the bare feet part. Give your special yogi a pair of Injinji Yoga Toe-Less Socks ($16). The socks are designed especially for yoga and keep feet cool and supported. Their made from NuBamboo fabric which is made of naturally antibacterial bamboo fibers. Nothing says "I care" than helping them fight fungus.
