1. Calorie counter - When I first lost weight, a lot of people asked me what my secret was. Aside from working out, I told them it was simple math; you should only consume the number of calories that your body needs in order to reach and maintain your ideal weight. For me, that number is 1500 calories a day. Here is a link to find out how many calories you need to consume in order to maintain your current weight or to lose weight. Also, check out acaloriecounter.com to find out how many calories are in the food you are eating. You may be suprised at just how many calories there are in sodas, fruit juices and salad dressings.
3. Track runs and workouts - I love tracking my workouts so I can see my progress. Breaking the Tape - BTT is a free website that lets you track your runs and analyze your yearly progress. Nike Plus - Nike plus is also free once you buy the Nike plus sensor for you iPod or a wrist band. If you don't wear Nike running shoes, here is a link to a pouch that holds the sensor.
4. Find a race - If you work best when you are working toward a goal, you may want to consider entering a 5k (3 miles) or 10k (6 miles). Here is a site that lets your find local races. Most races are $15-40, which usually includes a t-shirt.
